🎅 Yule Traditions
The vikings celebrated the solstice with banquets and offerings to the gods to ensure the return of the sun.
🔥 The sacred fire
Lit throughout the night, it symbolised the rebirth of light and protected the community.
🌲 The Yule tree
Before Christmas, Scandinavians already decorated trees to honour life in winter.
The words ‘Yule’ and “Jul” (still used in Scandinavia to mean ‘Christmas’) come directly from these pagan celebrations!
